DCPC Trainer Course | Train the Trainer

What is a DCPC Trainer Course?

A Driver CPC Trainer course (often called Train-the-Trainer) is a professional development qualification that teaches you how to deliver Driver CPC periodic training to HGV (lorry) and PCV (bus/coach) drivers.

  • This isn’t the same as the Driver CPC licence training that drivers take for their own 35 hours — it’s training for instructors

  • After completing a recognised Train-the-Trainer course, you should be competent to plan and deliver Driver CPC courses that meet DVSA quality and compliance requirement

Who It’s For

A DCPC Trainer course is suited to:

  • New instructors with little or no training experience

  • Experienced trainers who want official accreditation

  • In-house training staff at transport companies

  • Classroom, remote or blended learning facilitators delivering periodic training to drivers

The course teaches instructional methods, lesson planning, driver engagement and DVSA compliance.

 Course Content

✔ Introduction to Driver CPC and the syllabus
✔ Instructional techniques and planning
✔ Training aids and delivery styles
✔ How to deliver modules effectively and engage drivers
✔ DVSA compliance, record-keeping and audit requirements
✔ Practical assessment/teaching practice

The courses also include micro-teaching sessions and final competency assessments

Duration & Formats

  • 5-day course — common for people with little or no prior instructor experience

  • 3-day or shorter course — sometimes available for experienced instructors with proof of prior experience.

  • In-company delivery — some organisations offer training at your workplace.

Note: Formats may include classroom, blended classroom/e-learning components (depending on provider).

DVSA Approval vs Trainer Training

Driver CPC periodic courses must be approved by the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA)
✘ A Trainer course by itself does not mean you automatically can offer DVSA-approved courses — you normally need a training centre approval or work with an approved provider.

If you’re planning to run your own approved Driver CPC courses, you also need to meet DVSA centre approval requirements.
